"To Build A Fire" by Jack London seems to fall under the category of Naturalism, and I feel that this short story also shows an existentialist mindset. From a naturalist point of view, the freezing land was uncaring towards the man as he struggled to stay warm and build a fire; meanwhile, from an existentialist point of view, the man's actions also led to his fate. I think this story favors both ideals in showcasing how the protagonist led to his death and how nature (the universe) worked against him.
