At the time of the reading I came up with two separate thoughts about the man.
Firstly, I thought that the man was being ignorant for choosing to walk through the snow by himself. He was told that it was best to have a companion. It is a snow path and as much as someone can be used to traveling this path. We will never know how bad the path can get especially if the weather is worsening. However, he encounter the dog along the way. He thought the dog was there for convenience and survival. The dog wanted warmth; he knew the man would provide it. Since his mindset was one-dimensional about the dog, it blinded him to understand that the dog could be the companion he needed.
After reading the entire story, I came to understand that there are different factors that could affect an individual's thinking. The dog was the companion he needed and took for granted. At the end when the man got stuck, which was pushing him to think outside the box. He tried to use the dog for survival. Even though the dog backed away because he knew something bad was about to happen. He came back in the end to be with the man. You could say that the dog was there for survival but also because he created a bond with the man.
