Wondering what effect this would have had on characters like the narrator of Winter in the Blood? Also, how does the notion of termination square with some of the existential threats occurring during this period?

I think that this sort of assimilation could have done 1 of 2 things. First, since the narrator was in a bit of an identity crisis himself, he may have embraced the more "American" way of life. He may have gravitated towards this instead of keeping his Native American way of life. On the opposite side, he could have rebelled again this assimilation and returned to his Native American heritage just to spit the American Government. I guess I'm not sure which he would've done, simply because he returned in the end. Thoughts?
