I think I want to analyze the idea of drifting and the opportunity of choice in Barbary Shore in comparison to other novels-- Maurice by E. M. Forster and The Unbearable Lightness of Being by Kundera. These are novels that I found myself thinking about when reading our existential works, so comparing the characterization and recognizing the existential elements in these other novels seems interesting.

Love the idea, Grace--- as you'll see in my Introduction, I've also noted this figure of the stranger, or the drifter, as a common one in American existentialist literature. Trying to think who that might be in Maurice... I haven't read the other one.
Are you framing opportunity of choice as a positive or a negative? Is drifting an active decision, or just subjecting oneself to passive "destiny?" Will be interested to see what you come up with!
